The Concept of "Not New"

Posted by Claire Brandon on

Not New is a statement in reaction to the fashion industry not taking its own advice.  The designers in our feeds make their money because they already know how we’re going to spend our own. They produce hundreds of new items each season, have markdown outlet malls pushing even cheaper products, and burn unsold clothes, despite believing in the necessity of only a few pieces and a good tailor. Not New is a capsule collection in which every garment is necessary. It’s made up only of the garments editors tell you, “You should have this in your closet.” It’s not...

RE-INTRODUCTION

Posted by Claire Brandon on

HELLO! My name is Claire Brandon, and I’d like to take this time to re-introduce myself to followers, new and old. I haven’t run new product on this channel since December of last year for a myriad of reasons, and Delta is still forming, falling apart, and rebuilding. This business began as a research project about Mississippi, my family’s history in the state, and my inherent privilege. It is my privilege to learn and to invest in all of the above.  From the onset, we have donated our dollars to organizations acknowledging and educating the public on the value of...

StyleBlueprint's FACE of Nashville

Posted by Claire Brandon on

Thank you to Javacia Bowser for your kind words, Leila Grossman for your photos and the entire StyleBlueprint team that put this together.  Growing up, Nashville native Claire Brandon (who now splits her time between Nashville and Clarksdale, MS) spent her summers in the Mississippi Delta, visiting family in Clarksdale and Shelby. The Delta is part...

I'm writing this with no angle other than the fact that this is a ridiculous story. I've been following Curtis Flowers' case via the In The Dark podcast since it began. On one of my first journeys back to the Delta I decided to stop in Winona and take a walk around town. Admittedly, I'm positive the locals are annoyed by these visits, but nonetheless. After spotting the resale shop that used to be Tardy Furniture, I took note of the patrol cars and in I went. Of all places, THAT'S where I found the bridesmaid dress for my best friend's...

BLUES AND GREENS FESTIVAL 2019

Posted by Claire Brandon on

At the end of every year comes a very special weekend at the Shack Up Inn; a weekend I've come to enjoy because of who doesn't attend. Most anyone can plan accordingly and catch RL Boyce do a 45 minute rendition, but not everyone gets the grain bin jam session or a taste test of 10+ family greens recipes. Sat right in between Thanksgiving and Christmas, Burdine's Blues and Greens falls on a weekend most tourists aren't planning to travel. Clarksdale is a town built on visitors, making it that much more important to plan a party or two for friends whose mailing address is actually in the...
