Three years ago Papaw was still alive, I strolled into their house and said, "Have y'all ever been to Po Monkey's?"  My Uncle Ronnie kind of laughed and went, "Boy, have we?!"  Notorious for its ceiling decor, cheap beer, and outdoor bathroom, Po Monkey's was one of the most widely recognized Juke Joints in the Delta and you still see it today in photographs and memories.   "He was Papa's mechanic!" said Granna.  I've known these people my whole life and not one word of the man until now (...typical). BLUES AND GREENS FESTIVAL 2018

Hank Burdine's Annual Blues and Greens Festival at the Shack Up Inn in Clarksdale, MS was one of the first weekends in the Delta that I was able to make friends of my own without having to go through the hoop-la of explaining what it is I'm doing in town.  Self-explanatory by nature, the weekend is comprised of a greens cook-off out back (enter at your own risk), nights filled with the blues, and Bloody Marys to heal last night's wounds.  Mostly for the locals, this festival is nothing but cool people doing cool things, having a good time. It was one of those rare Delta days in the fall when the sun is high, but it’s cool out. Similarly to New York after a long winter, time moves slow, but people are moving faster, happier, and their windows are down.
